“Wherever these works are placed, I can promise an emission of positive energy into the environment. I do not think it is enough to just displace space with so-called art or sculpture; instead, one must strive to reach the people who will experience the art. In a world of negativity I try to provoke happiness and well-being. My mission is “Peace Through Creativity”.”

– Richard X Zawitz

In a first for the country, King Kong comes to The Rotunda at Exchange Square in Hong Kong this October as famed sculptor, inventor and Thaumaturgist, Richard X Zawitz displays his newest creations in an exhibit titled “Civilization and the Monkey: Why we are here! Why are we here?”

Located at the building complex in Central, within Hong Kong’s financial district, “Civilization and the Monkey” will follow previous significant art exhibitions. In March last year, an impressive installation by Chinese artist Zhu Jinshi dominated The Rotunda, created in collaboration with Pearl Lam Galleries. The gallery presented a boat-like construction measuring up to seven meters high, composed of bamboo, cotton thread, and over 12,000 sheets of Xuan (rice) paper.

The installation features 18 bronze and stainless steel sculptures, through the style of Curvism.

The pieces include “Monkey of Female Beauty,” “Monkey of Invention,” “Monkey of Magic,” “Monkey of Commerce,” and “Monkey of Technological Evolution,” all of which refer to important historical, cultural, and scientific archetypes from history. At the center of this ring of bronzes is a four-meter Tree of Infinity — “a tree of life that connects all forms of creation in an ever-expanding and evolving cosmos,” according to a press release. You can discover more about the exhibit here.
